About Thae-A-Gho-Wens, He Splits the Sun:

I was raised on the Onondaga Nation located in present day central New York, My ongwehoweh name is Thae-A-Gho-Wens, Beaver Clan born for Turtle, of longhouse, Ononda-geh-gah or The People of The Hills. I worked in construction for most of my career. Then after having the opportunity to attend a two year language immersion program to learn the Onondaga language, I had the privilege to work as a full time language teacher at the Nations local grade school. Now I am planning to continue pursuing my associates in environmental sciences after I get settled into my new home. Reconnecting and relearning ancestral knowledge, from language, woodworking, quillwork, hide processing, basket weaving, food systems, to Indigenous land stewardship practices have become a large part of my life's work.

I now live in Woodridge N.Y, working on community development, self sustainability, and resource management while creating a 20 acre food forest. I have had the privilege of serving for numerous projects with multiple organizations, in various indigenous communities over the last few years. Now I will start to begin hosting workshops both in person and virtual to create spaces for knowledge to be shared. My artwork consists of various forms of Eastern woodland tribes’ regalia and instruments, as well as multiple other crafts. I like to produce items that have a very traditional approach and technique, but I also make many modern and contemporary custom pieces. I would like to say thank you to the artists out there that continue their work. It is always inspiring to see what others make or to help anyone in any way I can to create their own pieces. Please feel free to reach out.

Currently I am working on many new projects and have stopped taking custom orders for the time being while I build my house. I will be making things available as I go along. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support of my work and patience while I am going  through a major move and transition... Nyawenha- Thank you
